Nationals committee in place

Dave LeGrow of Mount Pearl has been named chair of the host committee for the national Under-18 male and female Sony Cup club soccer championships that will be played in Mount Pearl and St. John’s October 6 to 11. Provincial soccer president Doug Redmond named LeGrow and other committee members.
“We are very fortunate to have Dave LeGrow agree to head up this committee,” Redmond said and cited LeGrow as “an extremely knowledgeable longtime volunteer who has served soccer in a wide range of positions and has been deeply involved in organizing important soccer events. Under 10 Jamboree

The schedule for the U-10 Jamboree has been revised as of August 24
Revised schedule. Please note the Pre-tournament meeting is 4pm on Friday, Aug 27, 2010 at the Mount Pearl Soccer Association Club House.

Under 12 mega tournaments

Mount Pearl, Paradise, Bay Bulls and Happy Valley-Goose Bay won their gold medal games to earn championships in the 2010 provincial Under-12 girls mega soccer tournament in Conception Bay South. Mount Pearl edged Conception Bay South 1-0 to claim the “A’ title. Anna Barry scored the winners’ goal.
Conception Bay South, Portugal Cove-St. Phillips, Paradise, Conception Bay North, Stephenville, Bay Bull, and Clarenville were the category provincial champions at the Under-12 boys soccer mega tournament in Gander. Jeffrey Greenslade had the goal as Conception Bay South took the “A” title 1-0 over St. John’s Red.

2010 Provincial Masters tournament

The All – NL Molson 2010 Provincial “A” Masters Tournament is scheduled to be played in Paradise, September 17 -19, 2010. Should enough teams express interest to play recreation, the NLSA will set up a “B’ championship as well.
The deadline for registration is Sept. 3, 2010 at 4 PM. The cost of registration per team is $350.00 + HST = Total $398.00. A team may register 25 players for this tournament. Team credentials forms may be retrieved here.
Note: There will be no late entries accepted for registration.

U14 Girls Provincials

St. John’s shut out Mount Pearl 2-0 Sunday at the CBS pitch to take the gold medal in the Pepsi Cola provincial Under-14 girls “A” soccer championships. St. John’s will represent the province in the Canadian championships in Moncton, New Brunswick October 6 to 11.
Melissa Reid and Morgan Fitzgerald had the St. John’s goals and keeper Sara Wicks came up with the shutout.
Members of the champion St. John’s team include Maria Mackey, Melissa Reid, Victoria Fitzgerald, Morgan Fitzgerald, Spencer Wilkins, Geanna George, Nicole Torraville, Emily Finch, Ashley Sullivan, Leanne Raske, Nichole Mahon, Sara Wicks, Alanna Careen, Stacey Hanlon, Ashley Fowler, Jessie Bowering, Kiera Walsh, coach Laura Breen, assistant coach Leslie Pope and manager Valerie Lilly.

Under 16 boys provincials

St. John’s blanked the Burin Peninsula 2-0 Sunday in Mount Pearl to earn the Pepsi Cola provincial Under-16 boys “A” soccer championship. In addition to the title, St. John’s will represent the province at the 2010 Canadian club championships October 6 to 11 at Vaughan, Ontario.
Keeper Erroll Ellie posted the title encounter shutout while Ben Collingwood and Carter Mackey scored for St. John’s.
