EPR Kirby/The Dock win Jubilee

EPR Kirby/The Dock earned its second provincial senior female soccer championship Monday night as it gained the Breen’s Jubilee Cup title 5-0 over Feildians/Facey Financial Planning at the Feildian Grounds.

Kirby led 3-0 at half time in a game that was originally scheduled for Sunday but was postponed because of rain.
While Janine Bursey was recording the shutout, Laura Breen scored two goals to pace the attack. Malorie Harris, Nichole Adams and Vicki Thistle had the other goals for the champions,
In addition to the Breen Trophy for the title, Kirby won the Jean Thompson Trophy for first place after the regular season.
The victory earned Kirby the right to represent the province at the national Jubilee Cup championships October 7 to 12 in Saskatoon. Last year Kirby placed, fourth, the best showing ever by a Newfoundland and Labrador female team, when the nationals were held in St. John’s . Continue reading ‘EPR Kirby/The Dock win Jubilee’ »

The Jubilee award winners and all-star team were named prior to this evening’s Jubille final. The MVP Regular Season Raeleen Baggs Award  went to Malorie Harris of EPR Kirby/The Dock.

Mount Pearl won the Under 18 Championship by 2 games to 0 over St. John’s.  The national Under-18 championships are scheduled for Sherwood Park, Alberta October 7 to 12.

Mount Pearl edged St. John’s 3-2 Sunday to win the championship as the 2009 Pepsi Cola provincial Under-16 girls “A” soccer championship concluded. Mount Pearl was undefeated in the tournament.

Canada Games men finish 7th

The Canada Games team men concluded the tournament with a 3-2 win over British Columbia, thanks to two goals from Boyd Roul, and one from Sean Edwards.  They had previously lost their  quarter final against Nova Scotia  1-0  to a late goal. They played PEI in a 5th-8th placing game and lost 3-1, Keegan Ezekiel being the NL goal scorer.

National Championships

Three teams remain to be decided for national youth soccer championships.  Three St. John’s clubs have earned the right to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at national competition October 7 to October 12.  St. John’s entries won the Under-14 “A” titles and travel to Sydney, Nova Scotia.  St. John’s was the lone entry in the Under-18 “A” boys and will compete at Sherwood Park, Alberta. The team will be named after the Canada Summer Games are finished.  The national Under-18 girls championships are also set for  Sherwood Park. Mount Pearl and St. John’s will play a best of three games series August 28 to August 30 in Mount Pearl for the provincial title and the spot at the nationals.  Conception Bay South will be the site of the 2009 Pepsi Cola provincial Under-16 “A” girls championships August 28 to August 30. Mount Pearl, St. John’s and Conception Bay South are entered.  Burin Peninsula, Conception Bay South, Mount Pearl, St. John’s and the host Corner Brook are entered in the 2009 Pepsi Cola provincial Under-16 “A” boys championships August 28 to September 2. Both national Under-16 championships will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Canada Games – women’s team finishes 6th

Newfoundland and Labrador Women’s Canada Games Team finshed 6th overall, following a 3-2 loss to Nova Scotia in the 5th/6th p lace game. They  secured a berth to the 5th/6th place game with a 2-0 win over Manitoba. Katie Dunphy (5 min) and Rebecca Green (78 min) both scored timely goals while Maris Miller preserved the shutout. The mens team travel to PEI to take part in next week’s competition.

14 A tournaments

St. John’s earned both titles in Pepsi Cola provincial Under14 A boys and girls soccer championships Sunday. The boys topped Mount Pearl 4-1 and the girls defeated Mount Pearl 4-2 to claim the titles.

Under 12 mega tournaments

Seven champions were declared Sunday in Corner Brook when the 21-team 2009 Pepsi Cola provincial Under-12 boys soccer tournament concluded. The entries played 42 round-robin qualifying games Friday and Saturday to classify clubs for the title games Sunday.
St. John’s, Corner Brook, Mount Pearl and Conception Bay South won titles Sunday as the 2009 Pepsi Cola provincial Under-12 girls mega soccer tournament concluded in Paradise.

14 Mega tournaments

ASIA from St. Pierre, Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Conception Bay North won titles as the 2009 Pepsi Cola provincial Under-14 boys soccer championships concluded Sunday in Gander.
A 3-1 decision over Corner Brook earned the “B” crown for ASIA. Mael Kello scored twice for the French team who got one goal from Ivan Dos Santos. Ryan Harnett scored for Corner Brook.
St. John’s, Corner Brook and Burin Peninsula won titles Sunday as the 2009 Pepsi Cola provincial Under-14 girls soccer championships concluded.
Stacey Hanlon and Ashley Fowler scored a goal each as St. John’s edged Mount Pearl B 2-1 for the B title. Emily Bailey scored for Mount Pearl.
