Mount Pearl, Paradise win Masters Provincial championships
Mount Pearl Rosie O’Grady’s is the 2009 Molson provincial Masters “A” soccer champion. The club defeated Conception Bay South 3-0 in the title game of the nine-team tournament that concluded Sunday. Mount Pearl will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the Eastern Canadian championships in Ontario in October.
Gary Penny, Bill Bavis and Ellis Coles were the marksmen for Mount Pearl in the title victory over CBS. Penny and Andrew Moyst had the goals as Mount Pearl blanked St. Lawrence 2-0 in their semi-final.
Jimmy Flemming had two goals and Dave Horwood added the other as Conception Bay South stopped Duke of Duckworth 3-1 in the other semi-final. Calvin Thompson had the loser’s goal.
Alec Turpin of Mount Pearl was the “A” most valuable player and Flemming was selected the most sportsmanlike.

Paradise ICI Paint earned the “B” championship 2-0 over Marystown. Garson Yablong scored both Paradise goals.
The “B” MVP award went to Ernie Sharpe of Paradise and Scott Coady of Marystown was named the most sportsmanlike.

Note: Mount Pearl , the Provincial Masters Provincial “A” champions will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2009 Eastern Canadian Championships to be held in Ontario on Thanksgiving Day weekend, in October. The NLSA had made a decision to earlier award Mount Pearl the right to represent the province when they were the only NLSA team that were willing to compete where the winner of the division would travel to the Eastern Canadian Championship
